Grant Morrison INSULTS Comic Book Fans

I was upset reading the line but am glad Steve Bennett’s article put Morrison in his place. The highlights in bold of his text were by me, to make his reply stand out.

I’m actually glad to say I never followed Morrison’s career and have much / if any of his books. I find his reply to REALLY be insulting. Their really is no call for that. For me, I put a reply like his up their as if it is a racist remark, that is how bad it is.

And though I usually don’t like to curse, I am going to if that’s cool? Fuck You your a son of a bitch Morrison! Steve Bennett hit it spot on when he said you should be grateful for the fans who kept you employed, and if you have nothing nice to say about them you should keep your mouth shut.

I think the backlash of Final Crisis and I think he wrote that recent Batman storyline is why he’s angry at fans. Again I haven’t followed what DC books he is working on. But really angry or not that is not an excuse for what he said.

And isn’t he British and was a model or something.

I’m speaking of a quote from Grant Morrison which came from a Hollywood Reporter article about Comic-Con, comic book culture and comic book movies. I made the memorable bullet point the title of this week’s column but here’s his statement in its entirety:

Morrison: I don’t care about geeks, you know? Geeks shouldn’t be given power. When geeks get power, you get Hitler. There’s a lot of weird and angry geeks out there.

Steve Bennett: Yes, and for over the last twenty years they’ve kept you continuously employed. Under those circumstances gratitude, appreciation or silence would seem to be the appropriate response, not stooping to play the Hitler Card to smear comic book fans.

At the very least I’d like to think a writer of Mr. Morrison’s caliber would know better than to violate Godwin’s Law* especially its corollary which states the first person to bring up Nazi’s automatically loses the argument.

I’ve always appreciated Mr. Morrison’s work and would like to think his words were taken out of context, but honestly can’t imagine what other context they could be put in.

* According to Wikipedia Gideon’s Law states “As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches.
